No one saw it coming
It came as a shook when the 9.0 earthquake hit the coast of Japan on March 11. This is because it was never thought that that area could get a earthquake that powerful. So that is why the area of Sendai wasnt prepared for anything like this, it wasnt suppose to happen. See on the crust on the ocean floor off the coast is old in fact its over 140 million years old, older crust is cooler and denser unlike its younger counter part. And history was on there scientists side to back that up. Worst part was Sendai was considered to be one of Japan's best prepared city's for a Tsunami.
